A Letter To Wynstones

Hello Friends and family and welcome to my blog! I hope you guys will continue to follow my blog and join me as I embark on this exiting adventure.During the application process I was asked to write a letter to The school addressing why I wanted to go to Wynstones and why I should be accepted and this is what I wrote :

Dear Wynstones Faculty,

As a child growing up in the Waldorf community I felt nurtured, loved, and above all I felt as though I could be myself and express my individuality freely.

I loved participating in all of the unique festivals,, dancing around the maypole, re-enacting the victories of Saint Michael, and proudly walking handmade lanterns around the park.   I am a person who loves the arts, I have been dancing since I was seven, acting since I was 4 and singing since I could speak.  Being at a Waldorf school allowed me to do these activities everyday and better myself as an artist.
Honestly,  I have to say, the best thing about Waldorf is the warm welcoming community.   The friendships I gained while attending Madrona Waldorf school I will, without a doubt, carry throughout the rest of my life. They are not just my friends, they are my brothers and my sisters.  Our bond is so strong I have no doubt we can handle anything life throws at us and we have learned through our Waldorf education to reach out to one another, be selfless and work as a team.

I would like to attend Wynstones school so I could once again be immersed in the warm Waldorf culture. I love the way Waldorf students are taught, you aren't just given a textbook and sent home with page after page of homework, you are taught with individual attention, and an incorporation of art, and music. As Rudolph Steiner once said “Accept the children with reverence, educate them with love, send them forth in freedom".

I am very intrigued by Steiner curriculum, and Wynstones school. I hope to attend Wynstones becuase after receiving a grade school education, I have always wanted to attend a Waldorf High school but have not had the chance. I believe that Wynstones school is the perfect place for me. I have also always wanted to live in the U.K, my mother is from England and I have very fond memories of visiting my family. I have always had an affinity for England and I would love to immerse myself fully in the culture. I  feel that being at a Waldorf school  while spending a cultural exchange abroad will be helpful and comforting to me as I explore this new country.

I thank you for your consideration and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Isabella Barber-Lowell

Educational Adventure!

Isabella "Izzy" Lowell is a 2008 Madrona School graduate who is hoping to find her way back to Waldorf School.

Next year I would like to once again immerse myself in Waldorf culture and attend Wynstones Waldorf School located in Gloucestershire, England. I truly feel blessed to have been able to attendMadrona school and look upon the school community not just as friends, but as my family.

I am looking for sponsors and donors and will be setting up a blog to document the whole process, starting with my application and handwritten letter to the school and ending when I return home.  On my blog,"Isabella in England" I will be comparing and contrasting the styles of American and English Waldorf schools, photographing events and updating the contents frequently.

I am hoping that this cultural exchange experience will be inspiring, fun and educational, for me as well as the followers of my blog. I hope to inspire the younger Madrona students to maybe one day follow in my footsteps and try Waldorf abroad. I would love to hear any ideas anyone may have for further fund raising or comments and feedback on my blog.

With much love and admiration,
Isabella "Izzy" Lowell
